Andrés Gallardo
With roots in the worlds of fashion and design, Andrés Gallardo and Marina Casal came to jewelry via a flea market in Berlin where they found a cache of antique porcelain figures. They created their first work with these dramatic and sometimes fragmented ornaments, also incorporating leather, metal, and beads. Having received a high degree of acclaim since, their current porcelain figures are broken, polished, painted by hand, and then assembled into whimsical and sometimes surrealistic compositions. Andrés and Marina’s world of animals and out-of-context materials takes shape intuitively, through improvised and meticulous craftsmanship.
