JUNE 20, 2013 After a spring spent crossing the country by way of a six-stop traveling trunk show, we celebrated our LA arrival and forthcoming shop-in-shop opening (July 10) with a preview of our fall '13 collection and a crew of uber-lovely fashionistas.
The day began with a 6am trip to the sprawling Original Flower Market in downtown LA, where we crammed the trunk of our rental with three hours worth of flowers. Back at our new home, blooms were snipped, bundled, and spread throughout the space. Palm-sized treats were plated and piled high. And all the while looks were styled, zhuzh-ed, and put in order. Cue a mix of throwback tunes (not to mention the bubbly), and new gowns by Delphine Manivet, Amanda Garret, and Tadashi Shoji glided down the stone staircase on some of the prettiest Anthro employees this side of the Hollywood Hills.
Chatter of Gatsby-esque glamour and effortless midcentury silhouettes filled the room as the ladies of Green Wedding Shoes, Design Love Fest, M loves M, and Huffington Post Weddings, to name a few, reviewed the show.
Dahlias, queen ann's lace, scabiosa, and lots of feathery greens turned out to be the names of our flower game. Though we never found the perfect peach blossom we were searching for, we did find mini callas in the prettiest, most understated apricot, and dahlias in a slew of blushy-plum pinks. Because we were showing fall gowns on the first day of summer (for all practical purposes), we decided that wild flowers in fall-ish hues bridged the two seasons nicely.
Do stop by the historic, 50,000 sq. foot LA Flower Market if/when you're in town – it's a sight to behold. Check the website to see which days and at what times the market opens to the public.
