BHLDN Weddings: Mary & Tim
A LOVE STORY At the tail end of a conversation (and a glass of champagne) during an after-work gathering, Tim asked Mary on a first date. Three years later, certain that Mary was the one, Tim flew halfway across Australia to ask her father in person for his blessing. He managed all of this rather covertly, too, explaining his absence as 'work-related' and ringing her father just an hour outside of Mary's family farm from a rental car. Her father cancelled his golf plans for the day, welcomed Tim, and the rest is history. Mary still had no idea until a few months later when, while visiting her family again, Tim stole a moment for the two of them beside apricot trees and asked her to marry him.
THE DRESS(ES) 'I was looking for a dress with vintage charm, one that was relaxed yet elegant, and one that was a little different,' Mary explains. So, after reassuring words from our stylists (Mary lives quite far from both our store locations and was a bit hesitant to order a dress online), she took the plunge on our Lita Gown by Catherine Deane. It seems she couldn't be happier; as she puts it 'I felt like a princess.' For her three bridesmaids Mary opted for our Marchioness Dress as its light blue color and subtle vintage quality blended perfectly with Mary's own dress and the overall feel of the day. Mary reports the girls 'looked great, felt comfortable and received loads of lovely compliments.'
FAMILY AFFAIR Despite holding their event relatively far from most of their family, the couple was especially touched that nearly everyone made the journey. Mary's parents' farm again provided the scenic backdrop. Her nieces and nephews, thrilled to play a role, strolled down the aisle as flower girls and ring bearers. Her mom cooked up apricot jam made from her own orchard as wedding favors, bundled each of the white rose bouquets herself, and baked the wedding cake, too! And for Mary's something borrowed, Tim's family lent her a necklace treasured by their family for generations.

BHLDN Weddings: Elisabeth & Peter
THE ENGAGEMENT Feverish and exhausted at 4am on Christmas Eve morning, Elisabeth couldn’t have imagined she was about to have her most memorable Christmas yet. The pair had just returned home from a holiday party at her family’s house, when Peter asked coyly if she felt too tired to open her gift. ‘Of course not!’ was her reply, as she followed him eagerly to their Christmas tree. With eyes closed tight, she felt as he lowered to one knee, her hand in his, and seconds later ‘Will you be my wife?’ Peter asked. Without hesitation, she exclaimed ‘YES!’
HER DRESS With a clear idea of what she was looking for, Elisabeth struck out when she began to search for her perfect gown. ‘I was looking for a vintage feeling dress, but wasn’t pleased with what I found in the local shops’, she said. On Valentine’s Day 2011; however, Elisabeth’s luck changed. Finally, she had fallen in love with a gown. Our Burnished Organza Gown. Soon after, she made the decision to have it shipped to her in Canada, and she wasn’t disappointed. ‘The dress is amazingly pretty, with beautiful details and a gorgeous vintage-bohemian feel’. Fitting for such a lovely bride!
THE DAY With a knack for all things crafty, Elisabeth and Peter set to work on personalizing their wedding in Quebec City. The pair fashioned mason jar candle holders, a collection of vintage tea cups and vases for floral centerpieces, and their very own kitchen chalkboard in a vintage frame to showcase the menu. A handmade paper backdrop was used at both the ceremony and the cocktail reception’s photo booth, adding to the ‘simple, authentic and home-spun’ event.
