Tulle Era Dress 4 5 9 9
Not for short brides I was thrilled to be able to order this dress during a BHLDN sale. I had been keeping an eye on it because of its vintage, roaring 20s charm, and I have been going back and forth between a simple, clean cut column design and something quirkier and less traditional. I usually wear a 0 or 2 in Anthro -- I am 5'4", 32 chest, 25 waist, 35 hips, with broad shoulders. I have found that BHLDN gowns fit me a bit large in a 2, but because I have broad shoulders a 0 does not always work. I ordered a 2 in the Tulle Era dress. This style did not work at all on my frame, unfortunately, and I would only recommend it for a very tall woman. The dress completely overwhelmed me and make me look big and a little squat. The netting on the top is very loose and made my arms look enormous! It must have been pinned back on the model shown in the picture. The fabric is interesting -- the details are lovely, but the netting does look a little cheap in my opinion (though I did not find it itchy). The lace appliques are also a little cheap looking. If you are looking for real lace, try elsewhere -- this is all netting and netting appliques. Finally, for those of you concerned about getting a dress made in the USA, this is made in India. This dress took my breath away I had been looking for a dress for my daughter's wedding next May and the search was not easy. I found this dress early in my hunt and kept searching for something more beautiful and not the typical MOB dress. I would always try to find another dress to wear, but kept going back to this. I finally ordered it after talking extensively with one of the style consultants via email ~ she was amazing. The dress arrived and took my breath away. It is BEYOND stunning, the detail is incredible and the rhinestone buttons down the back & on the sleeves are an extra 'wow' factor. I love the vintage feel and it was a perfect fit. Yes, it's a little itchy, but I don't care cuz I'll be so occupied that day, I doubt I'll notice. Amazing vintage-looking dress. September 9, 2012
Stunning in every detail. I tried this dress on a whim while at the BHLDN Houston store. As soon as I saw myself in the mirror, I knew this was the dress. First off, it is so much more impressive in person. The detailing from the flowers on the skirt to the little beads on the sleeves to the buttons down the back are just phenomenal, unlike any other dress I've seen. With so many dresses being a dime a dozen, it's so refreshing to find a gown that has had care put into it. I was originally worried about the sleeves and chest part based on the online images, but once wearing it, they were some of my favorite parts. I'm much smaller on my upper body than my lower, so finding a dress that highlighted my small waist while making my derby thighs magically disappear made me not only look amazing, but FEEL amazing. To address a previous review, my skin had no reactions to the dress. The only issue I came across was some of the buttons on the small of my back, by my waist, would come undone. The eyeholes for the buttons just seemed really loose/too big to hold the button. I put my bridesmaids on button duty, and they made sure I was always put together, but it was a little bit of a bummer, since the dress is otherwise so perfect. Besides that, it was exactly how it should have been - looked incredible, felt comfortable, didn't need to be altered. I received an unbelievable amount of compliments on it as well, which of course always helps a bride feel good. :) Side note: I'm 5'10", so the dress fell on me the same way it does on the model in the image. I was able to pull off flats with it. May 7, 2012
Beautiful dress, even better in person Like the other reviewers, I tried the dress on as soon as I had a chance. My mother found it online, and I never looked for another dress. I ordered my usual dress size and it fit perfect. No alterations needed, no need to 'lose a few pounds,' and I'll be able to eat at my own wedding -thank goodness! I'm always concerned about the rib cage/waist area being too tight but this was very comfortable. The color is lovely (taupe), the fit is great, the upper netting is a bit scratchy (I only noticed it on top of my shoulders) but I got used to it quickly. The details are amazing and the Swarovski crystals are a really nice touch (as well as the buttons along the back). It's as fun and swingy as it looks in the photo. As for the length, the dress really would be better on a taller woman, I think. At 5'8" I feel I need at least a 3" heel to get the right look (4" would be even better). I had flats on when I tried the dress and I looked like the dress was wearing me. Overall, 5 stars! **** BHLDN... if you could add a fabric swatch with the dress, it would make life so easy. This 'taupe' color is particularly difficult to keep in mind when coordinating accessories. March 30, 2012
