The Dakota is so beautiful. Simple, elegant and so so classic. The material is strong and thick so it hides "lumps and bumps" well and no need for under garments! My tailor had a tricky time with alterations. One thing thst irritated me about BHLDN was them recommending I purchase a size up from sample 4. But the 6 was HUGE on me (I am between 4 and 6 in street clothes) and needed more work than I had anticipated (dress is very long). If the size down fits, go for it ladies! The bustle was a little hard to figure out initially and at our reception, my groom stepped on it and tore up the bustle tye so I ended up holding the train in one arm which was beautiful in and of itself! Make sure you have the seamstress or dress consultant show you how the bustle works. Also, Recommend bust cups for added structure. And I recommend trying this gown on, I wasn't going to initially but my hubby loved the style and I ended up falling in love with it!

I went into BHLDN Chicago knowing that this was likely going to be my dress, and it was absolutely perfect! It is so simple with a beautiful train and really unique fabric. It also allows you to add whatever accessories you want to make your look. I had a belt sewn on, a better bustle put in, and the sides taken in (I'm usually a 6 but ordered a 10 to have the dress fitted perfectly to me). This dress is timeless and a real stunner!

I wasn't even looking for my wedding dress when I saw the Dakota gown by Nicole Miller. I saw it, and knew immediately: it was perfect. I made an appointment at the nearest BHLDN (Chicago), my stylist was very helpful and professional. I am normally a size 2 or 4, but the size 4 I tried on was extremely small. She suggested I order a 6. It was almost a perfect fit, except was slightly too snug in the chest and hips. I ended up exchanging for an 8, as I'd rather have it taken in and tailored to fit perfectly. I want to have the dress made to fit ME, and not try and fit the dress. As you can see from others pictures, this dress looks amazing on all different body types. It is classic and modern at the same time. Very glamorous and sophisticated, but I love that you can really make it your own by how you style it. I haven't decided if I will wear a topper yet, as we are getting married in August on a rooftop, and it's an evening wedding. But I do know I will be seeking out some statement jewelry for sure.
I never thought I would wear a strapless wedding dress, or a sweetheart neckline, but there is just something about the fit of this dress - it draws you in! It is not for everybody, and decidedly one of BHLDNs less vintage-y options, but I think that is what sets it apart. The dress material itself is unspeakably lovely, it doesn't need any embellishments.
Overall, try on or size up, and let the stylist show you some different styling options, that is my only regret, not trying on anything with the dress other than jewelry at the time. Luckily there is no shortage of inspiration on how to style this dress!

I never thought I would end up with a dress like this but I did! I loved this dress from the moment I put it on - and loved that my BHLDN stylist recommended wearing a topper. I wore the dress with a topper for the ceremony and switched to a sparkly belt for the reception.
I thought it ran a little small - I ordered my normal size based on the stylist's recommendation and couldn't even zip it at home! But it did come within about a week after ordering which is amazing.
I re-ordered one size up and had to have it taken in a bit. As other reviewers have mentioned, if you need to have the dress tailored, it keep can be a bit tricky to keep the silhouette and structure of the dress so invest in a good tailor. I'm 5'4 so we had to chop quite a few inches off of the bottom. Also, I ended up replacing the bust cups as they looked rather bunchy in person. Alterations were about $300 which is unfortunately fairly standard for bridal.
Overall, I loved this dress and felt beautiful in it. The silk/cotton blend is lovely in person and was forgiving enough for my muggy August wedding.
