Our fathers worked together in the Navy and according to our moms, we've known eachother since we were nine years old. We kept in touch over the years and eventually began talking regularly. When Sam lived in San Diego and I in DC, he visited me over a long weekend and the rest is history!
Sam's grandmother gave me a gold bangle, and my grandmother gave me her own sorority ring to wear as my something old. Sam's sister lent me a diamond bracelet for the day, and my something blue was a sapphire brooch.

Just four months before the wedding I decided to switch dresses! I had doubts about my first choice for a while and when I saw this one I fell in love; it reminded me of a ballroom filled with dandelions and butterflies.
We chose a place we had both called home at one point. The elegant charm and 1920s décor of the Hotel Viking captured the essence of our initial ideas and so the planning commenced. Nearby Kay Chapel (where our ceremony took place) once belonged to Trinity Church, which is also where Sam was baptized.

Our fathers' careers brought our families together, and eventually our own Navy jobs brought us together too. Since I was a little girl, I've envisioned my dad wearing his uniform on my wedding day, but I never imagined having two dads in uniform!
The reception room was already so richly decorated and I didn't want to take away from that, so we went with my favorite flowers in all white: hydrangeas, gerbera daisies, peonies, and ranunculus.
The kids menu! Chicken fingers, french fries, and chocolate covered strawberries, not to mention buckets of candy for their centerpieces…
Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond—an old Penn State favorite of mine and one of Sam's all-time favorites as well.
We surprised our guests by having my mom perform a solo of What a Wonderful World during the ceremony. There wasn't a dry eye in the chapel and she's never looked more stunning or beautiful than she did that day.

Don't micromanage your day and enjoy every second of the process, through to the final dance. You only get to do this once and it goes by way too fast.
