Behind the Scenes: American Bohemian

Behind the Scenes:
American Bohemian

When planning our latest photoshoot, we looked to the early 90s for inspiration infused with boho style and vintage Americana. These laid-back vibes were perfect for our first time on location since early spring. After several months of shoots that looked very different from the norm (including paper dolls and FaceTime collabs!), we were delighted to be on set with fresh fall looks, our new Plus collection, and some four-legged friends. An expansive farm in Quakertown, PA provided the perfect backdrop, with plenty of open air and space to safely spread out. While things still looked a little different (think masks, picnic lunches, and all outdoor locations), our team agreed: it was great to be back.

Kirby C., Stylist:
“90s, Bruce Weber, classic Americana, vintage icons like Bianca Jagger, and modern bohemians like Pamela Tick.”

Sarah S., Content Creator:
“90s Ralph Lauren vibes.”

Can you tell us a bit about the location?

Landis: “A beautiful farm in Quakertown, PA. The original stone cottages felt like fairytales made real.”

Kirby: “My favorite part was the pool. You really felt like you could be somewhere in Italy or France. It was such a treat to spend a few days there!”

Sarah: “The property was MASSIVE! I set up my own little space in the shade where I could shoot more candid moments with the models. I hung silks and fabrics on a clothesline and it became a sort of hideout for everyone when they weren’t on set.”

What was your favorite look?

Landis:
“It was amazing to finally see our Plus gowns on figure, roaming around those grounds.”

Kirby:
“Honestly, there are too many to name! We had so many fun looks to work with, but I’m partial to the LoveShackFancy Ryan Gown we shot on Erica. It fit the vibe perfectly.”

Sarah:
“The bell sleeve Myla Gown on Jenaye. It just fit her so well and I loved the understated details.”

Landis: “When the two rescue dogs showed up and proceeded to drag our ‘bride’ down the aisle over and over (and over).”

Kirby: “Shooting with the rescue dogs! Being able to combine two things you're passionate about is truly amazing.”

Sarah: “Having my dog, Cozmo, make a cameo appearance on video!”

Three words to describe the vibe on set...

Landis:
“Sweltering, humid, happy.”

Kirby:
“Relaxed, fun, collaborative.”

Sarah:
“Hot, sweaty, fun.”

How did it feel to finally be back on location?

Landis: “Good. Odd. Masked and distanced and all outdoors with boxed lunches and lots of precautions... but we are lucky to shoot with smart, careful people.”

Kirby: “Being on set is one of my favorite things in life, and to be back with new and familiar faces was amazing. Being outside on such a large location made us all safe and let us distance properly without worry. There was such a good energy—you could tell everyone was excited and grateful to be back at it.”

Sarah: “Since I joined the team in March, this was actually my first time on location! I had been counting down the days for my time to shine.”
